According to what I read about cortaid it doesn’t sound good for my baby. Does anyone have any ideas as far as other safe medications?

i have always used hydrocortisone cream it comes in a tube and you can buy it in any pharmacy, also aveeno has a good line of products that are really good for eczema

We use hydrocortizone 1% creme during outbreaks, and have since she was about 4.5 months old. Once the outbreak is calmed down we use Renew lotion from Melaleuca http://www.melaleuca.com/ps/index.cfm?f=ps.search&tSearch=renew

My doc suggested cortisone cream – and thats what i used on my bubs eczema – but you only use it for a few days in a row, give a day break if you need and put on again (as its got steroids in it).
It depends on how bad too, cos some people just use sorbelene cream and that helps too.

hello, i used oilatum bath oil and aveeno cream for my kids who both had eczema.i was told to even use the oilatum diluted for nappy time too. it’s a bit pricey but should be able to geet it from your doctor. it’s worth a try, it worked for mine and i still now make sure i keep both incase we need it.

This is a problem that MANY parents have to deal with. You might consider a homeopathic or alternative medicine doctor if you are concerned about using cortisone or steroid treatments for your child. Sometimes their treatments work for your particular child.

I developed eczema as an adult about 8 years ago and frankly, nothing works better than the steroid creme that I am using currently. After a couple of years, I was able to back down on usage.

I haven’t gone the medication route on my children yet, but my kids doctor told me that I could use a low dose hydracortisone cream if it gets really really bad. (or else she could prescribe something if that doesn’t work)
For now I only give them a bath 2-3 times a week, and I have pretty much cut out using all soaps. their doctor recommeded a body wash like aveeno or dove..very gentle and mild. I use aveeno on occasion…but now what seems to be working for them is just doing oatmeal baths (the aveeno oatmeal bath stuff) and just use like 1/2 a pack in the tub with them. It says on the package that you don’t need to use a soap because the oatmeal has cleansing properties. I just use a wash cloth and bathe them with the oatmeal water. (but i do use baby shampoo on their hair…I would miss the baby smell otherwise) and I put aveeno lotion on them at least once a day (sometimes twice) I coat them head to toe! I also only use the laudry soaps that are free of dyes and perfumes and don’t use fabric softner on their clothes.
It has REALLY REALLY helped. A very dramatic improvement of their skin!

You could just use oatmeal lotion and use visaoline!!

I learned of this when a young boy who comes to my mother in laws hair saloon had eczema!! He had the condition all in his hair!!

He would cry from the hair cuts, and then one day he did not cry.. I was so surprised I asked his dad what changed?? He said the treatment!! This is where I learned of this holistic treatment!!

It also has helped other friends that have eczema also!!

we wash our baby only 2- 3 times a week unless she needs it, and use Olay Quench, it has made a BIG difference, our ped recommended it… also we put Nivea creme lotion on her, lubriderm or baby lotion didn’t cut it. we only use cortaid if its itching her, i don’t think it helps the eczema at all

If you are willing to pay for it….try getting a sample of Arbon’s Baby Line. My sisters little baby boy has Exzema and uses it and it works great for him.

Hydrocortisone creams are the norm for babies with eczema, however my children both have eczema and their dermatologist has told me that it shouldn’t be used very often. It is a steriod and should only be used sparingly and when the skin is really red and patchy. Othertimes, lotions that don’t contain fragrance, fragrance free bathwash and laundry detergent can help. My daughter uses a prescription lotion that is called Hylira. It works really good on getting her skin moisturized without having to use the cream. Aveeno has a good line of lotions and body washes for baby that work well. If the cream is used too often on the babies sensitive skin, it may seem red like an eczema flare up. In reality, it is possibly a chemical burn from the cream and rubbing more on is only gonna make it worse.

i am sorry i am not well versed about cortaid. but all i know is that eczema has still no cure yet. it is found out that eczema does not go away. in some rare case, children will outgrow it when they reach the adolescence stage. that is why if you want your son to outgrow eczema be sure to give him proper diet and proper nutrition to boost and enhance his immune system in fighting skin disease like eczema.

to prevent eczema flare ups be sure to consider this simple tips:

    - avoid perfumed skin care and body care products
    - avoid extreme hot and cold weather conditions
    - avoid keeping fingernails long
    - avoid scratching the affected area
    - avoid long baths
    - avoid processed foods
    - avoid skin irritants and allergens
    - avoid clothes and material that are rough, course, scratchy and tight

protect the skin all day and promote skin healing by using an all natural skin care product. this can keep the skin moisturized all day. visit http://www.skinoriginal.com for more tips on how to prevent eczema flares.
