He’s already seen his doctor plus a dermatologist. I have used Aquaphor (great on diaper rashes), Eucrine, Vanicream, CeraVe, and Cetaphil. Plus he’s gotten 2 presciption creams (some amts of steroids involved). In desperation, I’ve now used 1% hydrocortisone cream (huge amts of steroids). No use – he’s still scratching like mad and the cycle of bleeding, open wounds begins. Help!!!!!!

I think the only thing left is to cover his hands, poor baby, try those scratch mitts. Heat aggravates eczema, so it might be a long haul as the warm weather moves in. I would contact the pediatrician again, there may be a different cream to try. I would suggest benadryl or zrytec, but I don’t think that’s okay for infants, so definitely check your pediatrician.

You have already started doing what is right! Now all you can do is damage control. For open wounds put on bacitracin or any antibiotic ointment and for the eczema put on the steroid ointment. Cut the nails regularly and try to stop him from scratching as much as possible. It will be hard but it will help to heal the wounds faster so you can apply the steroid ointment to stop the itching.

When he has a really bad flare up use a wet washcloth to cool him and it should calm him down. Put on the steroid ointment when he starts getting red or itchy. Keep him in cool places and use aveeno baby wash when you bath him and aveeno lotion whenever the skin is dry. In about one week he should be less itchy and in about 2 months his skin will not be so dry anymore and he will not be breaking out as much.

I have been using seventh generation all natural detergent or you can use whatever detergent that is all natural. Be cautious when other people hold him because he will flare up. It will be difficult at first but it will get better! Good luck and I hope this helps you!

Medication- wise you are already doing all you can. You must now try environmental changes such as using a different detergent on yours and his clothing (either dreft or a “free & clear” product) and no softeners, including bedding. Using a pure soap without scents. My pediatrician always recommended Dove or Ivory. If you have started solids food or formula or you have pets or carpeting he might have an allergy that needs to be addressed. It may also be related to contact with cleaning products, etc. You need to get with a doctor who will outline a plan for you because this is nothing that either of you want to live with. To me it sounds like your doctor is beating a dead horse with all the medication changes and not helping you address the underlying cause of the eczema. Find a new doc.

if you are breast feeding, watch your diet because that can effect him big time, if he is formula fed maybe change his formula…

My son was the same, he had it on his face and still has it on the back of his neck but I think I am finding it more difficult to clear it up because he is sweating in his bed at night. We got all sorts of cream from the doctor which worked for a few days then stopped. We got a cream called pure baby from the chemist that worked fantastically and almost had it cleared. I am in the UK but if you are elsewhere you would be able to buy it online, it was developed by a doctor that couldnt get anything to clear his daughters ecxema and it is really good, I told his dermatolagist that it was helping and she prescribed hydromol emollient ointment which is pure baby concentrated apparently, we were told to apply it at night only as it is like lard, really thick and greasy. It did get a little better but I have started putting it on in the morning as well and it has almost clear now. You should ask your doctor about it and give it a try. Good luck!

mittens and lukewarm oatmeal baths. I am so sorry you are going through this I have been through it with a baby as well and it is hard. You might try 2% hydrocortisone. I dont know that would be up to you. Best wishes to you and the little guy.
