I was told by my vet that my dog Brandon, an American Staffordshire Terrier/Rottweiler Mix, has allergic contact dermatitis AND irritant contact dermatitis. That is pretty much all he told me. I don’t know if it is a diseased that has to be managed, or something that can be fixed. I would really appreciate some more information. I can’t find anything online for dogs, only people.

  1. Nancy U says:

Irritant contact dermatitis occurs when chemicals or physical agents damage the surface of the skin faster than the skin is able to repair the damage. The dermatitis or eczema is often well demarcated with a glazed surface but there may be redness, itching, swelling, blistering and scaling of the damaged area. This may be indistinguishable from other types of dermatitis.

there is something he is coming into contact with that is giving him the reaction on his skin. Ask your vet if he can perscribe a lotion to use or a medication to reduce the inflamation and possibly a list of what may be causing the reaction.
