My brother was had eczema when he was born, but he has grown out of it now (he is about 10). I am not too sure what to do now (since you have had it for 15 years), but I can tell you what we did for my brother. He had really bad eczema that was all over his body and he could not stop scratching. The doctor recommended a cortisone cream (like hydracortisone, but stronger) to help with the itching (you have to be careful with it because it contains steroids) and also said to keep putting lotion on him. there was this lotion that he recommended (unfortunatly I have forgotten the name but you can buy it over the counter). We also gave my brother oatmeal baths with lavender. The oatmeal helps with itching and the lavender helped relax him.
I remember what he went through and I hated to see him go through it so I feel for you. I hope that it eventually goes away. Try to stay moisturized. I have really dry skin that cracks and tears (but its not eczema) and I have to put lotion on 2 times a day to keep it under control. I drink lots of water too, but it doesn't seem to help. Good Luck, try the oatmeal bath, I have done it myself and it feels nice. I believe that it will help.

Hi, I'm in med school now, so I'm sure I'm not nearly as qualified as your doctors at NJRH. One thing I have learned in school is that if your condition changes or gets worse all of the sudden, especially if your medicine is no longer effective, it is worth going to the doctor right away. They may be able to adjust your dosage or give you a different ointment. It is also easier to provide the best treatment for you if they see you when your condition is worst.
Some of the first questions we learn to ask are whether your condition is keeping you up at night and how it's affecting your normal activities. You shouldn't have to live with that. Is there any way you could get in sooner given the circumstances? I can't imagine they would turn you away.
Good luck to you. I hope you feel better.
