Our daughter has bad eczema, and her primary doctor thinks it’s contact dermatitis. It’s on her elbows and arms, sides of her legs and knees, and her cheeks. However, I fed her squash for the first time today, and now she’s got a rash on her butt and a little on her chest and stomach (in addition to what she already has). I can’t think of anything she could have come into contact with today that would cause a rash on her butt or stomach. We haven’t changed diapers, wipes, diaper cream, or laundry detergent for her (Dreft only). Is this more than likely a reaction to squash? Any personal anecdotes or general knowledge about allergies and eczema are greatly appreciated. She’s only 5 months old, so seeing an allergist won’t do much good yet (so I’ve been told). Thanks!

  1. Chicken in Black says:

A skin reaction from food can flair up anywhere on the body, or seem to move around too. It could be the squash.
When I have skin reactions to food the rash sometimes shows up on my arms, legs, face, or back. I’ve also had them that feel like my skin is crawling, or that there is something under the skin moving.
I just wouldn’t give her squash if you think it is the trigger.

My daughter had the same problem…
For now I would recommend cooling creams and steroids from a Doctor but when she gets old enough to speak and walk properly I would recommend Benovate C. It can be prescribed from a Dr and made mine and my husbands lives alot easier as if you apply it at night just before they go to bed and in the morning, It will of dissappeared leaving a tiny bit of skin flakes behind. It really helps! Although it might not work for your daughter as different children react to different things and my daughter went through about 100 different steroid creams until we found this one!
    Good Luck!
