New Tattoo (saturday July 4) And Now Skin Rash?

I got a new tattoo on July 4th. This is also my first. I’ve been trying my best to follow the rules in new ink care. I’ve been using A&D ointment, keeping it covered outside and at work. Two nights ago I started itching around my tat. Now, I have these little pimply looking, EXTREMELY itchy bumps around the outside of my butterfly, NOT on the inked skin but around it. I went to Urgent Care because my doctors office was closed and my tattoo artist is out of state on a tattoo road trip. These bumps are red splotches with white headed little pimple things…I’m taking an antibiotic for what the U.C. doctor calls “mild contact dermatitis” and benadryl for the itching, as well as calamine to help dry the spots up but it only seems to be spreading slowly but surely….any ideas???

It could be a couple of things.
A) you had an allergic reaction to the A&D.
B) you used too much A&D and clogged your pores.
I doubt you have an infection. I suggest you use a very very thin coat of unscented lotion (I use Curel) twice a day. No more then that! Remember, a tattoo needs air to heal. Some people even do “dry healing” in which they don’t use any lotion at all. That’s how important air is. Good luck to you! I’m sure it’ll pass.

It’ll go away, just hang in there. Careful what you put on the tat itself.
Itching means the tat is healing. Hang in there.
To me, the most annoying part of getting inked is the healing part.

It just irritated your skin.
