I Wake Up With Swollen Eyes (both Upper And Lower Lids) And Have Puss Coming Out In Large Amounts (both Eyes)?

I normally wear contact lenses, have atopic dermatitis, am allergic to smoke, and only wear special mascara for sensitive skin. First time I had this, I was told that my eyes started rejecting contact lenses so I’ve changed the type. A&E gave me erithromicin to treat possible infection, which I developed allergy for and refused to treat me further since the swell was gone. All four lids get swollen like a baloon and I can’t move them and hardly see anything as well. White inner part also gets swollen on both eyes so I can’t really move the eyes either. And it hurts like hell. Before that the puss is coming out in massive amounts both from upper and lower lids. It normally happens after the night out. I thought it was contact lenses; however, last night I was wearing glasses, so now I start thinking that it’s the reaction to smoke. I had this 2 or 3 times with the old lens type and everything was good since I got new ones (about 2 months ago).

Take heart, timilit… when I was a child I had the same condition with my eyes on days where my allergies were in high gear in NE Ohio (Fall & Spring). My eyes would be actually ’sewn’ shut by all the yellow matted discharge! My mom had to get a warm cloth for me on these mornings and soak my eyes before I could open them. This is not uncommon for severe allergy sufferers and, by the way, it had nothing to do with any contacts – I never wore them. I too have Atopic Dermatitis, which simply means that your skin (the largest organ of the body!) is sensitive to many environmental conditions and allergens (fabrics, smoke, dust, cat hair….all very typical). My allergist always recommended the gentle eye-soak to remove the encrusted drainage but he also gave me an antibiotic because of the high risk of infection to mucous membrane when there’s a disruption of its normal function. Take care of yourself by checking with your general practitioner as to which doctor would be best for YOU (allergist, dermatologist, ophthamalogist???).

discontinue contact lenses
TAKE
TABLET OFLOXACIN 200mg 12 hourly for 5 days
use ofloxacin eye drops…. one drop in each eye every hour

i think yo need to see your DR. This is NOT normal I have never heard of that. Maybe a swollen, or puffy, eye, little discharge, **** in corner of eye, but your describing something—-unimaginable. Go to your eye DR & your normal family Dr. I’d see BOTH Dr’s & see what they BOTH have to say. Good luck, but go right away, dont mess w/ your sight!

Well from my experience, an allergic reaction to smoke is usually a respiratory reaction, not what you’re describing. And with there being puss present, that would suggest an infection. Are you changing your lenses everyday and taking them out at night?
Honestly I don’t know what you’re doing here. You should be at the doctor.

Puss is a sign of infection. See your doctor and throw the contacts away.

Best to see an eye specialist. I wouldn’t trust my eyes to the answers I will be getting here. Remember, this is the organ for sight involved.
