I put too much laundry detergent in one load, but I thought it was fine until..?
Posted by: Alan in Atopic Eczema, tags: Detergent, fine, Laundry, load, much, thought, until..
I noticed my skin start turning dry, red, and extremely itchy. I found on the internet that it’s most likely atopic dermatitis aka eczema due to my allergens to tide/
a) how can i get rid of the excess detergent in my clothes, or do i throw them away..?
b) how can i treat the affected areas (under eyes, eyelids, neck, arms, legs, pretty much everywhere…)
HELP!

Don’t throw out the clothes. Re wash them, don’t add detergent, and do add a cup of white vinegar
to the rinse. You could go ahead and add it to the wash, and then add another cup to the rinse. vinegar removes the soap.
As for the affected areas, try an anti itch cream, and/or take some Benedryl. I take a children’s
Benedryl so it doesn’t make me fall asleep.
Switch to all detergent in the shite bottle. It is fragrance free and dye free.

My son has bad Eczema all the time and the Dr.s no longer write scripts for Elidel and Protopic. They now tell us to take these steps at home:
1- take an oatmeal bath
2- pat dry with a towel
3- apply Hydrocortisone cream to badly effected areas (keep out of eyes)
4- seal entire body with Aquaphor ointment (worth the price IMO)
5- put on some comfy cotton pjs
6- try to lie down on a recliner or a couch so that you won’t roll around too much
As for your soapy clothes. Try washing them 3 or 4 more times, without soap, before you give up on them. In the future you may want to try “FREE” laundry products. Purex makes one that I like but you can choose from many. They are almost always found in a white container no matter what brand.
(: GOOD LUCK
PS. If your suds are ever overflowing fabric softener will cut the suds instantly
