So I was diagnosed with scabies yesterday and a couple weeks before this I was diagnosed with dermatitis and I don’t know which is correct? I got the cream and put it on last night and washed my clothes and bedding but I don’t think I have scabies because I haven’t been in close contact with anyone except my bf and he doesn’t have scabies. I read that it can only be contagious through prolonged skin to skin contact and I want to know if that’s true. I am scratching a lot but it’s not keeping me up at night. The doctor who diagnosed me with it did no testing and just said that’s what I had in like one second of looking at it and not even looking at it closely so I am having doubts that I have it. I am currently living with my parents and now they are worried about getting it but I think they would’ve had it by now and I just don’t know how I got it in the first place?? If you can help me that would be great! Thanks!

Is that like ringworm? You can get that so easily! it does NOT take prolonged contact. Keep using the lotion. A doctor can tell by looking at it what it is without testing you.

I got scabies TWICE and no one I knew had it. I’m convinced I picked it up at the gym. Just because no one you know has it, doesnt mean you don’t. When I had it, it DID keep me up at night. It was seriously awful. WHen I went to the doctor, he didn’t test me. (They don’t need to, really.) He looked at the rash and knew that’s what it was. Either way, I would keep putting the cream on and wash EVERYTHING just in case. Because if you do have it, it will get worse, trust me. :(

Scabies is usually only contagious from person to person through skin contact, though it is very possible to pick it up from things other people have used a lot. It is possible to get it from other, non-human sources. Scabies in humans is like the non-deadly form of mange for dogs. They are essentially the same thing. You can pick it up from being outside in the dirt, being near animals such as chickens, etc. Scabies also usually has a distinct look to it, so most doctors can diagnose it just by looking. Dermatitis and scabies are very different and aren’t likely to be confused. I’d recommend using the cream as your doctor has ordered, and then visiting a dermatologist if you still have symptoms and to clear up the dermatitis issue.
