My 2 year old grandson has Eczema from head to toe. The doctor prescribed a medication that is over $70 and my son and daughter in law cannot afford to buy it, so I was wondering if anyone knows anything over the counter that they can use on this little boy to control the itching. It is heart breaking watching him scratch until he bleeds! His little hands are red and scaly and very rough. I feel so bad and helpless! Thank you in advance!

I’m in the UK and i got it perscribed for free, but I don’t think that happens because you have no health service nationwide.
But I’m sorry i dont think you can get it over the counter ?
    sorry

dermaveen is a good one (sp?) i’ve found also any thing with lavender in it works well. if you mix your own oils i think the oils have to be diluted down a fair bit with a base oil.

also tie some rolled oats (not the instant sort) into a stocking/pantihose/muslin bag and put it under the tap when running his bath…make sure the water isn’t too hot tho (the heat only inflames it more)

hope this helps. best of luck

Prescriptions meds are the best. Some are affordable. Even in prescription strength. Make sure their Dr. knows they don’t have insurance. Sometimes that totally changes the direction of treatment. (I work with a Nurse Practitioner that knows what is it like not to have insurance coverage, very sympathetic. So I learn a lot)

On the other side. I do know that Aveeno has a line out that is very good. In fact they had to pull the product from the shelve (recently, its back now under a different label) because they promised things beyond feds approval because they endorsed what should have been prescription, even though it worked. It was the oatmeal (collodian) line. Try their line of bath soaks and creams (not lotions, creams much more effective).
I hope your little tike gets relieve soon. It breaks my heart to see little ones suffer what you describe.

    Hi

My daughter has eczema to the point like your grandson she scratches till she bleeds.

We have used prescriptions and over the counter products.

Cetaphil is good for bathing, also a good soak in an oatmeal bath helps her as well. I buy the store brand oatmeal bath from Wal-Mart but Aveeno makes the same products as well. Aveeno products are a good help. Also bathing in mildly warm water not hot water is a key too.

I have also found that when she bleeds I do not put her prescription meds on her because they burn…I did however find that Mary Kay has a product with their Satin Hands that works wonders it is the Night Cream. Very thick like Vaseline and this cleared her up overnight.

We also use Dove for sensitive skin, Aquafor is another product that is good as well.

    Hope this helps.
