What kind of soap and lotion do you use if your child/baby/yourself has eczema?
Posted by: Alan in eczema treatment, tags: child/baby/yourself, Eczema, Kind, Lotion, Soap
My one year old was diagnosed today with eczema.
The doc suggested Dove soap and Eucerin, but is there a soap or lotion that works better in your experience?

At babies r us there’s a soap called mustela stelatopia that cleared my daughter’s eczema up in a day, literally. It’s soap, fragrance, and paraben free. IT’s pricey though. That’s the downside.

Ask your pharmacist I think there is one call Lubiderm, its great for skin problems in has no soap in it. Also putting some baking soda in the bath water helps soothe the skin . About one half cut to the bath water.

Aveeno has a soap specifically for eczema, but I’d bet you could just get a type of soap with no scents or dyes, and that would work fine too. I saw Suave Kids has a “free and gentle” soap at the store the other day.
The Aveeno stuff does work well, though it’s kinda expensive and it stinks. I’m going to to try the Suave kind next.
Here’s what they look like:

I agree with the doc about Eucerin.

I use Aveeno and Mustela (pricey). Both are gental on her skin. As for lotion, we use Aquaphor made by Eucerin. It keeps her skin moisturized. I love it. We also have Eucerin but it’s sooo thick

Well I use Dial, because I am allergic to some soap and get a massive rash if I use another kind of soap. You can always give that a try

My son has had eczema since about 3 months old he had it bad
My doctor also suggested Dove soap which worked nice but we like Aveeno baby wash and lotion much better.
Aquaphur is great too but pretty greasy!

I have eczema and I use the Dove soap for sensitive skin which I’m sure is the one he was talking about and then also, the Vasaline Intensive Rescue lotion and Norweign Formula Hand Cream. It comes in a little bottle, but it works really well.

Most of the soaps I found at the health food store worked well for us… Kiss My Face and this other brand, it was just called organic natural something, I can’t remember. Natural stuff has much less chemicals and is not as harsh. Dove makes me eczema flare up every time I use it. If you are not into natural stuff, try Aveeno. They work really well, the only reason I don’t buy it is because they test on animals and I don’t like that. Good luck! If it gets bad, see if you can use a hydrocortisone cream. It’s a steroid so they don’t like you to use it but it is the only thing I’ve found that clears up eczema and FAST. Oh and for a dry rash, Vaseline, Eucerine, and Aquaphor all work well to moisturize.
One more thing… the most important thing is to put the cream on right out of the bath, don’t wait! And don’t give more than 1 bath every day or two! Those 2 rules will help a lot.

Dove works best in my opinion. Cleans really well without removing too much moisture and natural oils. Also goats milk soap is awesome. I use Penaten cream and Vasline for small spots of eczema.

My son has it and we do a nightly bath followed by a “slimy massage time” with Aquafor. It is amazing and it cleared his cradle cap right up.

I’ve had eczema since I was 6 years old. I’ve been dealing with it for the last 17 years, and it’s such a miserable thing to have. I’ve had so many prescriptions for it over the years.
Eucerin didn’t work well for me. I don’t know why, but that lotion created a sort of burning feeling on my eczema. I have really severe eczema though, so that could be why I couldn’t handle that one.
Oatmeal lotions seemed to work a bit. Vitamin E oil dabbed on a cotton ball and applied to the spots was a fantastic one back when I had Vitamin E oil. Currently, I use Vaseline Intensive Rescue Moisture Locking Lotion, the unfragranced one. It’s been doing a pretty good job of keeping my eczema in check.
