Question by Sämy: What are some over the counter cures of hand eczema?
I’m fairly certain I have a case of it and without insurance, I can’t go to the doctor. What are the names of stuff I can get from Walmart that will help fix this up? Thanks!

Consult with your physician. You’ll need to consult with your family doctor to establish the type of hand eczema you’re currently suffering from. This will allow your doctor to better treat your condition.

Step 2

Apply a corticosteroid cream, like Temovate, on your hands each day. This prescription medication cream is commonly used for most types of eczema that affect the hands. What it does is essentially speed up the process of healing and treat the dryness and cracking that may occur during a flare-up.
#
Step 3

Wrap each hand in a cool, moistened washcloth. According to the Mayo Clinic, wrapping the hands in a moistened cloth can actually increase the efficacy of the cream and reduce both itching and blistering (which is common in dyshidrotic eczema).
#
Step 4

Start taking an antihistamine. Sometimes, your doctor may recommend that you start using an antihistamine as an adjunct treatment for hand eczema. This type of over-the-counter medication can help to eliminate the itchy sensation you’re currently feeling on your hands.
#
Step 5

Moisturize your hands with a fragrance-free hand lotion. Anytime you wash or wet your hands, you should thoroughly and gently dry them, and then apply a hand moisturizer.
#
Step 6

Swap out all your soaps and detergents for milder versions of the same product. Sometimes, soaps and detergents can worsen hand eczema, so you should consider switching out all these types of products for those that do not contain harsh chemicals, perfumes or dyes.
#
Step 7

Humidify your home. While using a humidifier won’t necessarily treat your hand eczema, it can change your environment for the better by adding more moisture to the air. Really, this is more of a concern during the winter months, but it’s a good practice to get into.

    Hi there, Samy!

While I don’t know of anything at Wal-Mart, I am aware of an awesome eczema treatment that you can order risk-free. I actually write for a natural remedies company called Nature’s Rite and have tried some of their products. I’ve been pleased with the results.

Anyway, the developer recently released a natural remedy specifically for eczema, and it has an herbal blend that is designed to treat multiple causes of eczema, including allergic reaction, bacteria, viruses, and even fungi. This is a topical cream that has no corticosteroids and no drugs at all–it’s completely herbal. Best thing is, if you don’t like it, you can send your order back to get a full refund.

In any case, I hope you find the solution you’re looking for. I’ve done a ton of research on eczema, and have had a friend who had the condition. I can’t imagine how irritating it must be, and also how much of a relief it would be to stop that awful itching.

You really need to get to the bottom of what is causing your eczema. Unfortunately that is impossible without a doctor. You’re right, there are treatments you can buy that will treat the symptoms. My son has terrible eczema and I’ve tried a lot of things.

One thing that works well that you can buy at Wal-Mart is Aquaphor. It’s with the lotions and comes in a little round vial. This works great to protect the eczema from getting infected and also helps it heal. In addition to this, make sure you use lots of lotion (we use Eucerin’s Calming Cream or Nature’s Own Oatmeal lotion). Keeping your skin soft can go a long way to prevent the eczema.

One last thing that has helped my son a lot (and others I’ve talked to w/ eczema) is eliminating High fructose corn syrup from your diet. It’s a sugar that is created by chemicals. I’m not sure why this helps but it does! At first it seems like it’s in everything but you can find a lot of things without it if you really look.

    Good luck!!

I HAVE insurance and STILL avoid going to the doctors! ;) However, I did end up going so I could get a diagnosis. Thing was, I was a massage therapist and figured that no one would want my scaly, red, creepy-looking hands on their body!

I started out by taking prescribed steroid ointments. I quit using these because it wasn’t curing my condition. In fact, the longer you take steroidal meds, your body soon becomes immune to them and they quit working. Then the doctor prescribes stronger and stronger drugs. This is not good! All MD’s will tell you that there is no known causes and are happy to prescribe medications that may have short-term positive results. (If they don’t know the cause, how can they have a cure!?) These medications may cause so many other problems on down the road. FACT!

You may use lotions and creams to keep your hands moistened but try to get ones that have no harmful chemicals (such as the ones you will find at Walmart!) – these will add fuel to the fire, so to speak! Effective and harmless oils that you should use are organic oils such as avocado, olive and coconut oils. They may be expensive, but they have wonderful curing nutrients and a bottle will go along way. Dehydration comes from within so drink plenty of pure water. And, seal that hydration with good oils. (Use cotton breathable gloves on top of the oils, if you need to.)

I went on a hunt for more natural means to actually “cure” my condition on my hands. Understanding that anytime you have a skin disorder of any kind, it is a sign that something isn’t right on the inside of the body. To regain the balance inside, try doing a raw food diet cleanse or other natural, safe cleanses. You might be amazed how quickly your body will heal itself!

Much luck and success, Sami, in your treatment!

I use a cotton ball and dab that in apple cider vinegar and then dab it in emu oil and apply it to the eczema. Usually within 2 days it’s gone.
