Archive for the “Contact Dermatitis” Category

My oldest cat (around 3 years or so) in the past 2-3 months has developed an odd rash of sorts around her belly. I didn’t know this because I was gone most of the time out of town, and my parents were caring for her, so I was pretty shaken up to return to her in this state. It’s now branched out, so I’m even more concerned. It started right at the center of her lower abdomen, and has now stretched to her genitals and up the back of her left thigh. The rash… I could only describe as looking a strong pink, and feeling much like Psoriasis (I know the feeling from experience – my father has an extremely bad case). The hair in the area is extremely thin, but still there. All the patches of the “rash” are upraised. What could this be? She’s an indoor cat and hasn’t had any contact with any other cats save her children, also indoor cats, for months. And should I also note that her son, part of her first litter, passed away from some unknown, fast-acting disease? He just began withering away, losing fur, becoming nothing but skin and bone and in the end refusing all food and drink, and then lost bladder control and had seizures leading to his death. Could it be related at all? I can’t think of anything other than maybe Miliary Dermatitis.

Thanks for any input/help on this matter!
Also, she doesn’t scratch it at all very often – nor does she lick/chew it often. So I’m not sure about the Feline Miliary Dermatitis as a diagnosis.

Hello.

I was born with atopic dermatitis, and as a result of such have very itchy, usually inflamed, and bumpy red eyelids.

I was looking to find out as to whether or not frequent(2-3 times daily) applications of corticosteroids on my eyelids pose any risk other than that of atrophy?

I am referring to cortizone and triamcinolone acetonide corticosteroids. I have read warnings that triamcinolone can cause glaucoma if it comes into contact with the eye, but as to the eyelids it does not mention.

My old doctor told me that it was safe to use on my eyes, but I do not think he took into account at the time the frequency of my uses.

Please no answers unless you’re somewhat educated on the subject. Guesswork is whats getting me to post right now.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, I used to break out and when I did, I was left with very dark acne scars and I have brown skin (Philippines) and so the scars are very noticeable to see. I am 21 yrs old and back when I was 15, I never wore sunscreen or moisturizer while I had makeup on so, I have a very uneven skin tone due to sun damage and I’m still suffering from it. I use Olay Total Effects Night Firming Cream to get the firmness back on my face and stuff and in the morning, I use Ambi Exfoliating Wash, and then I use Bio Oil for my scars and to even out skin tone. But I need a moisturizer with SPF 30 coz I don’t want the sun to damage my skin even more. Do you think, Bio Oil is enough for moisturizer though? and I’ll just use sunscreen? I am only allowed to use the brand PRESUN from Rite Aid coz I’ll suffer from Contact Dermatitis if I use other products, I’ve been to the dermatologist when I had a bad reaction from a sunscreen or sunblock and I was told that Presun is the only one I can use. What do you all suggest for my moisturizer with SPF 30? Thanks in advance

So I was diagnosed with scabies yesterday and a couple weeks before this I was diagnosed with dermatitis and I don’t know which is correct? I got the cream and put it on last night and washed my clothes and bedding but I don’t think I have scabies because I haven’t been in close contact with anyone except my bf and he doesn’t have scabies. I read that it can only be contagious through prolonged skin to skin contact and I want to know if that’s true. I am scratching a lot but it’s not keeping me up at night. The doctor who diagnosed me with it did no testing and just said that’s what I had in like one second of looking at it and not even looking at it closely so I am having doubts that I have it. I am currently living with my parents and now they are worried about getting it but I think they would’ve had it by now and I just don’t know how I got it in the first place?? If you can help me that would be great! Thanks!

My doctor prescribed me Clotrimazole and betamethasone. I put it on my arm yesterday and it seemed to fade a little, but I’m afraid to take any more of it, because I read the side effects! It says not recommended for 17 years and younger! I’m really worried now…. side effects are scaring me to the point where I get panic attacks…. & is there any other way to get rid of ring worm.

these are the side effects:
Side/adverse effects
Signs of potential side effects, especially hypersensitivity; stinging; urticaria; paresthesia; rash; secondary infection; swelling; and long-term effects, including acne or oily skin; allergic contact dermatitis; folliculitis; hypopigmentation; increased hair growth on face and body; increased hair loss on scalp; perioral dermatitis; reddish purple lines on arms, face, legs, trunk, or groin; skin atrophy; and skin maceration
