I was told last year that my daughter has atopic dermatitis. She regularly will break out with rashes of different types. Sometimes it will be a fine sandpaper feeling rash…other times it is more like small pimples all over her.
The past few days she has had the small birght red pimply type of rash on her. No fever…slight itch (she only says something about it every once in a while.) The only thing she has came in contact with recently that has been different would be her new Bonzai Falls slide. We would turn the water on and let her slide for a while but once she would start getting cold I would turn it off and just let her land in the pool of water that gathers at the end of the slide. My husband thinks the bumps are from sliding with no water but my niece who was sliding with her has none on her. I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with bumps from their slide or if you can even give me advice about the dermatitis I would be grateful! Thanks in advance!

A couple years ago I was getting some really bad pus-y bumps on my hand and I was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis. They gave me some extra strength cream of some sort for it and that has been working. I still have some of it but I’m almost out, and my dermatitis has been getting worse on my hands. It is not as bad as it was before (before it was a lot of pus-y bumps and now it’s mostly very dry scaly skin) but it is on a lot more area of my hands than before. Are there any other medications or home remedies you know of to help this form of eczema?

Hi. So, to start with the basics: I’m 20 years old, African by birth, and I was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis at a very young age (around 3). The dermatologist I visited as a child prescribed a hydrocortisone cream (Mildison Lipid 1%) which I’ve been using on a pretty much daily basis ever since, especially on my hands, which have never been eczema-free (although some flare-ups are worse than others). I’ve been to three or four other dermatologists since my first doctor retired, and none of them advised me to stop using the hydrocortisone, although one of them prescribed Protopic as an alternative treatment. However, I’ve been afraid to use it due to the skin cancer risk (I live in a place that gets 340 sunny days per year, so staying out of the sun, or even just keeping my hands out of the sun, is pretty much impossible).
It’s obviously too late for me to worry about hydrocortisone thinning my skin and/or stunting my growth (the first is possible, although I wouldn’t know how to tell, but the second is unlikely), but lately I’ve been looking for alternative treatments. So basically, I’m asking for advice from anyone who has atopic dermatitis or any experience in treating it. At this point I’m done listening to people who say things like “Oh use some Vaseline on it and it’ll clear up next week.” After 20 years of waiting for it to “clear up”, I’d be happy to see it just improve.
Although I’d appreciate any well-meant advice, please note that I’ll never be desperate enough to fall for some hokey eczema “cure”, and although I’m willing to try herbal treatments, I have very little faith in them.

I’ve had Atopic Dermatitis (some form of Eczema?) for a few years now and it’s really hurting my self-esteem, but my mom refuses to take me to a dermatologist and learn more about it and how to treat it. So..
I read in a lot of places that Atopic Dermatitis has no cure. Is this true? If it gets treated, is it at least not visible on the skin?
Is there a certain specific product that I should look into about treating this? How long will it take?
If I treat it, will I have to continue buying and using that product or can I keep it away by precautions in diet, moisturization, etc. etc. ?
Sorry about all the questions, but I’m really bad at using the internet and I don’t know anyone with this condition. Thanks in advance for your answers.
