Question by Tiffany: How do I know my baby has eczema?
My daughter is 4 months old I am afraid she might have ezcema. Back of her arms have rash and it’s dry, also under her chin has rash. I am not sure if it’s eczema but I am afraid it might be. WE have an appointment with her doc in a month but I wanted to know how to recognize eczema in babies. I’ve been bathing her daily so the dryness might have contributed to the baths… Can babies this young scratch their skin if it itchs cuz I heard when babies have eczema they scratch a lot. I am terrified because I have a friend whose son has eczema and she goes through a lot of hardship with his diet. I think he’s got extreme one though. So what are the signs to recognize if it’s indeed eczema???
Oh about the rash on her neck, she drools a lot and spits a lot when she eats so maybe the spitting and milk irritates her skin.. Could this be the reason?

Rough, dry, raised patches are baby eczema. My daughter has it most babies grow out of it. It’s due to extra sensitive baby skin. We have a prescription for it and honestly, Baby Aveeno Eczema Care work just as well. I paid 11$ for a small tube. /My daughter never scratched it, She is also only 4 month, they don’t really have the coordination to do so. But she does grab at the eczema on her face. Good luck.

Question by Lrad: baby eczema HELP!!?
Does any of your babies have really bad Eczema on their faces?
What have you found that works like magic to treat it??

I have used:
Aquaphor
Gentle Natures Baby eczema cream & wash
A&D ointment
Eucerin
Baby Oil
Selsun Blue
and NOTHING works!
in fact, the more i try to treat it with different creams, the worse it gets. I need to clear it up in two days for pictures with santa
ALSO…how often do you bathe your baby when they have flair up’s?
do i use the Hydrocortizone Cream and the aquaphor at the same time?? like, do I mix it togther?

and to the first answer…you’re stupid. I have to clear regardless of santa or not. it is a rash that HURTS the baby!

ok first of all. your baby is your baby no matter how many oics with santa you take. ans second who cares about the santa pictures???! !!!! your baby will always look beautiful to you and who cares about the pics. so just let it go away on it’s own. your baby prbably hates when you put that stuff on him/her.

you may need to change medications…especially sometimes Protopic and Elidel aren’t as effective as a low dose steroid cream. You may want to go to a dermatologist for a second opinion. Also, I have had eczema all my life, so I will share the following as it also helps with eczematous skin:

1. Always wash clothes in a dye-free and perfume-free detergent like Purell or All Free.
2. Absolutely do not use any dryer sheets, the chemicals can make things worse.
3. Wash the baby with Cetaphil for sensitive skin liquid wash, that stuff is really really good and you can find at Walmart.
4. Try to dress the baby in 100% cotton if you can…the cotton does not irritate the skin, but those baby pajamas that have polyester and flame retardant can aggravate the eczema.
5. Sweating will aggravate eczema so keeping baby cool and out of the sun is helpful
6. Try to not put anything on with perfumes or fragrances, such as lotions, they will burn and aggrevate eczema.
7. Again, try to use 100% cotton sheets, blankets for bedding
8. If the skin is dry, keep moisturized. And you can use a very thin layer of Vaseline, or Cetaphil lotion for sensitive skin. Real dry skin only makes eczema itch worse.
9. Pay attention to see if any foods cause the eczema to act up, such as dairy, eggs or fruits…I have always had my eczema flare after eating certain foods.

I hope this helps!

When i has 5 months old my mum took me off milk completely. I drunk ribena, and took vitamen and calcium pills instead of having milk. This doesnt sound nice but you scratch the most at night when you are asleep, try covering her hands at night so she cant scratch (mittens). It worked for me as a baby, also you tend to grow out of it, so as she gets older it is likely she will grow out of it.
