Question by Sarah T: Son has horrible eczema, tired of only being able to fix it with prescriptions?
My son is 2, has suffered with eczema for most of his infancy.

We’ve tried altering his diet ourselves in case something is flaring it up (Doctor refuses to refer us for allergy testing), we’ve tried goats milk soap, only bathing him in bath oil, washing his clothes, linen and towels only in fragrance free powders, and then re-rinsing them.
We’ve tried countless off the shelf ‘for eczema’ creams, and none are doing a thing, in fact several of those creams have flared our sons skin up again.

The only thing that seems to be working is prescriptions from the doctor. They provide short term relief but nothing more, and I am starting to worry about the long term affects these strong creams may have on his skin later in life.

Please help, has anyone been in the same situation? Is there anything out there that can help us?
I have asked for referrals, from 3 different GP’s about this matter, and they have all said he is too young for further treatment, and that he’ll simply grow out of it.
It’s getting beyond a joke!
Here we can’t see dermatologists without GP referrals.

Question by TK: Is there a cure for Eczema being researched and is there any natural treatments for the itchiness?
I have been suffering from eczema since I was a child and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any research being done to find a cure for eczema. Also if there are any natural treatments for it because taking hydrocortisone cream is pretty bad for me considering it’s a steroid. Anyone with first hand personal experience with eczema? I’ll take any suggestions from experienced people because i’m desperate to have the itching stop. If anyone has any inside knowledge about eczema both a cure and a natural treatment please let me know! Thanks!

I’ve had eczema for years, and I used the hydrocortisone cream. It’s not bad for you … you get it from a doctor.

around October 7th we all went swimming in an overchlorinated hot tub and my sister in law and I both got urinary tract infection’s and my mother in law supposedly got a yeast infection. However, she is currently on Diflucan for that and Lorazapam to help her sleep and there is no relief, her symptoms are redness and rawness on the outside of the vagina and it just hurts as well as she has been complaining of abdominal pain she has no discharge and no odor. She is also very exhausted. These meds aren’t working and she has contacted several doctors (one who didn’t even look) Is there anything else she can try that isn’t going to have all these side effects and does anyone think it could be irritant dermatitis? Help!!!

When I wash dishes by hand, my palms get really itchy and burn. It takes quite a while for this to go away and feels really horrible. I take Zyrtec and a nasal spray for other allergies and also have contact dermatitis. (I had eczema for many years but I rarely have problems with it now.) Is there a medicine for this? Should I wear gloves? Do you know a good allergen-free brand of dish soap to try?

Hi there, I have lived with the skin condition eczema for all my life, the atopic variety , i have allergies and asthma too.
In child hood it was chronic affectevanescenceacks of my knees, my arms and torso
In my teens it began to go away and only flared on occasion. However, it did begin to show on my face and chest more .
When I was 19 it completely went away and I could wear make up for blemishes I still got itchy but my skin never seemed to flare up
but now it has come back in my 20s really bad on my face neck and chest the kind of areas most noticable to people.
Last year i had a serious skin infection to the back of the knees that affected my mobility. The skin was so raw i could not walk. My GP (who is v lazy) prescribed steriods over the phone as he couldnt be bothered to see me but as it was infected , the infection took over my whole body .
Luckily , when i was taken to hospital, a student doctor was in and took a keen interest to solve it. After many anti biotics and anti biotic creams and strong steriods the skin began to heal .
However, my main problem is the chronic dryness . I get really embarrased because i have skin flakes falling off me all the time.
My face is really flared as is my hands. I find it hard to move because my hands are cracked and have cuts all over them so doing things like the washing up is V painful .
As for my emotional well being, my last employer sacked me for taking too much time off (when i complained to HR about disability discrimination) they changed their story and said that i wasnt reaching targets which was not based on the amount of hours i worked but the time i was emplyed for so therefore it was unfair as i was off for a long time.
I called the benefits office and the woman on the other end of the call laighed and told me that eczema doesnt stop me working and told me to get a job. Also, the people at the disablity living allowence sent an independant GP out to look at me. As, i wasnt that bad he told them that there was nothing wrong with me and i could work .
As a result of being sacked and not getting any benefit i am behind on all bills and stress is making it all worse. I went back to my doctor and he wont refer me to a dermotologist till august.
What can i do? i fell the nhs and the well fare sytem added to any potential employers are not giving me support. Im at my wits end and im in constant pain. I know this sounds weak but i sometimes think i think whats the point in life when im stuck in this circle of unhappiness.
