TreatingSkinEczema.com – Today I am little concerned at what I am hearing pediatricians tell parents to do for their kids that suffer with eczema. On the blogs, parents are being told to bathe their kids in a bleach bath two to three times a day. I am disgusted at that and not to mention, it is highly unsafe. If parents knew the precautions of bleach, they would think twice. Let me see if you agree. Bleach is a pesticide. Each year over 1 million children are accidentally poisoned in the home. According to the Material Safety Data Sheet and National Poison Control Center, bleach can cause severe eye injuries and can damage the mouth, throat and stomach. When mixed with other fumes it can be deadly. Vapors have been shown to interfere with brain function and aggravate heart conditions and produce asthma. Question by Lp: Should I try a bleach bath for eczema?
I know someone that gives her toddler son a bleach bath for eczema and it works like a charm. It was recommended by his doctor. But I’m afraid to try it for my eczema. Maybe because of the “bleach” part LOL. But I’ve tried many things to treat it and nothing works.

Should I give it a try?

The bleach bath is to reduce the risk of infections which often happen in those with eczema. If you don’t have a history of infections this won’t help you and could make things worse. It doesn’t take the place of the need for other treatments like moisturizers and medications. It just allows them to actually work like they are supposed to.

I have had a faint rash all over my body for the last two years. It is really itchy. It started a week after I stayed in a hotel for a week. It was all over my body but after awhile it went to just my hands. I just recently stayed in a hotel or a week and it happened all over my body again. It starts inbetween my thighs and then to the back of my neck and ears and face and then to my arms. I’m wondering if it was bleach they used at the hotels? I have been constantly using bleach on my towels and sheets for the last two years. I thought it might be bleach because my doctor prescribed me allergy medicine and steroids to reduce inflammation and it went away and was gone until I washed my pillow cases and towels in bleach and it came back. This time it started on my face… And it burns like hell and itches!
Does anyone have any ideas? I’ve been to my family doctor and a dermatologist and they aren’t sure what it is. I’m thinking it’s allergic contact dermatitis/ irritant contact dermatitis.
Should I dilute some bleach and do a patch test?
And btw my rash is really faint and bumpy like mosquito bites. It doesn’t burn, except for my face, but it itches like crazy! It is not on my hands anymore, but it is now on my face, neck, ears, and inner thighs. I think it’s everywhere because the bleach on the towel I use to dry off with? Help?! Thanks :)
