Question by bolexi: Can the use of probiotics help control allergies, and if so, how?
My daughter suffers from eczema due to multiple food and environmental allergies that are very difficult to avoid. We have searched in vain for adequate treatment of her eczema. I have heard that introducing probiotics into her diet may help. Does anyone know if this is accurate, and if so, how do they work?

A good, although technical, source for information on probiotics is http://nccam.nih.gov/health/probiotics/index.htm. A less technical site is http://www.webmd.com/diet/tc/Probiotics-Topic-Overview. You do not mention your daughter’s age. If she is under 18, you should consult her pediatrician before starting any medication therapy. Yes, probiotics may help. I use yogurt with probiotics for general health; I have eczema, but it is very mild. I also have a cat I am giving probiotics for food allergies. Please remember the FDA does not regulate probiotics, so again I urge you to speak to a physician about this possible treatment.

Use the anti dandruff shampoo Nizerol as a body wash…it has both antibiotics and anti fungals in it. It cleared up many of my skin problems..by the way my pharmacist recommended it.

Question by Cloud9er: Can birth control make your Eczema worse?
So I went off of the pill (Ortho-Cyclen) about three weeks ago and my obnoxious spot of Eczema on my my forehead seems to have hardly flared up at all since then….I’m contemplating going back on the pill tonight but I’m worried that it’ll get bad again…Has anyone else out there noticed a correlation between the two?
I’ve posted this before but had no response, I really need advice by 2pm pacific.

Just as pregnancy can make eczema worse, birth control can also make eczema worse.
I would try a low hormone birth control pill instead of ortho tri-cyclen.

Question by sweetestpeachesnGA: How do I control my baby’s eczema?
My 8 month old baby girl has moderate to sever eczema; her skin does okay most of the time because I keep it moisturized but sometimes her face breaks out really badly and it seems no matter what i do or what I use nothing soothes her. I know that almost anything can cause a flare up but I dont know what breaks her out so badly at certain times or how to soothe her, my mom says its our cat. What do you think?

what kind of soap do you use? my son has it too, there are prescription creams you can use but i dont like them because they have steroids, but i have used them temporarily if it gets really bad. switching her soap may be the easiest answer tho. dove is great but it will sting her eyes if she gets it in them. i use arbonne, its expensive and hard to find but since i have been using it it seems to be better. also aveno is pretty good.
