Question by Unknown: Is it normal to develop eczema when you’re a teenager?
I’ve had rosacea when I was an infant and chicken pox the following year. Other than that, I have been relatively healthy and have suffered from no other skin conditions. Over the summer, I developed a small, itchy patch on my wrist and eventually got a skin cream to treat it. I now only get occasional flare-ups when I’m stressed. I’ve read that eczema mostly affects small children, so I don’t understand why it’s affecting me now in my teen years.

Also, does eczema ever permanently go away? Or is it a lifelong condition?

I also got eczema as a teenager (like in the last couple of years), it mostly affects small children yeah but it can develop at any age really; kind of like asthma. It’s normal really, there’s nothing to worry about, just treat it with cream when it flares up. Try not to get too stressed, and I find that it doesn’t flare up that often. As far as I know, I think it’s lifelong, but really its no big deal. Take care.

Question by muffin crumbs: What age do people normally develop Eczema?
Because I heard it usually occurs when a child is an infant/toddler. I didn’t have eczema as a child but acquired it when I was 13? (I’m 14 now.) It’s not severe eczema and it’s getting much better because I almost never itch, but there’s still this white patch :(
How did I develop eczema so late?
Does eczema go away or will I have it forever?
I noticed it after I went swimming (but I’ve always been swimming?!). Does it have anything to do with that?

Thanks.

I was told that Eczema is most commonly caused by stress. And it’s most common as a little child but it also commonly happens as a teen because of stress of exams.

In the last few months I’ve had a rash on my arms which two doctors and three nurses have told me is eczema. I’ve had ointments and creams which have healed the rash a little.

But I was just wondering if it was possible to suddenly develop eczema at age 18.

I’ve had weird spots of dry skin on my feet for a couple years. I don’t recall having them as a child though, and my brother has eczema all over his body. Could it really be eczema?
