Question by melanie a: My 3 month old baby has eczema on his eyebrows?
I am using baby Aveeno and baby laundry soap and have heard that cortisone cream can take the pigment out of their skin so I would like to avoid using it on his face. Any ideas of what I can do for him to take he itch away?

I have eczema on my arms and legs, and they told me to use the Aveeno lotion as well,i guess ebcause it’s thicker. So i’m not sure if putting anything on his face would help because it might irritate it more. Also, as soon as you give him a bath dont dry his face completely and apply the lotion then because it absorbs better.

Question by newmommy: My doc has adviced to use cornstarch powder on my 4 month old baby. Any recommendations???
My son has infant eczema and it is spreading all over his body. Couple of days back it started on his neck and the doc had advised me to use fragrance free cornstarch powder. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on which one to buy.

I’ve never used cornstartch on anything other than a bad diaper rash. My son has eczema too.

I got Johnson’s Soothing Naturals Lotion, body wash. It seems to really help his skin.

After he gets a bath you should pat him dry, and then put on the lotion. If you can, let it soak in really good before you dress him. Put lotion on him every day.

I won’t give any medial advice, but you can ask about using hydrocortizone cream on him, twice a day for 5 days on patches that are really bad.

The good thing is that they usually outgrow it by the time they’re 4 or 5 years old.

Question by vyos11: Natural remedies for 8 month old son with eczema and how long will it take to see results?
We just found out a couple of days ago that our 8 month old son has eczema. He’s had the red, dry patchiness for a few weeks, so we finally took him to the doctor. She told us it was eczema. Her treatment was for us to use hydrocortison 1% on the serious spots and Eucerin or Cetaphil all over 2 or 3 times a day, and to limit number of times we use soap in the bath each week to 2 or 3. We prefer not use a steroid for treatment. Are there any other suggestions that are more natural? We’ve been using Eucerin since the dr’s visit, but it only seems to be getting worse. How long will it take to see a difference? thanks!

Oatmeal products such as Aveeno. If it doesn’t get better get the steroids, prefer it or not.

Question by Liz&Iz: Anyone have suggestions on how to manage my 4 month old infant’s weepy facial wounds from eczema?
We went to our ped. and he put her on bactroban for a week. That didn’t work. Then he put her on keflex for a week and that also didn’t work. We’re waiting to see a pediatric derm. but that’s not until middle of Sept. The worst of her eczema is at her face. She has six weepy sores. My ped. said for now just use the bactroban at my disgretion until I see the ped. derm.
The ped. first prescribed the .5 hydrocortisone, that also did nothing.

Call the office and ask if they have any cancellations. Do this until you can get an earlier appointment.

Get a referral to a dermatologist to rule out allergies. My granddaghter got it bad and we finally found out she’s slightly allergic to some things — second hand smoke being the biggest culprit.
We did the following and it finally cleared up:
- got a prescription for when it was really bad to stop the itching and spread
- put Alpha Keri Bath Oil in the water (this seemed most helpful). Never found a generic substitute that worked well
– there’s lotions that are better for this than baby lotion — check with dermatologist
– stopped cow dairy and went to goat’s milk formula or rice mil
– add 1/4 teaspoon of children’s cod liver oil to her formula twice a day.
