Question by goldenphoenix_84: Need any advice from anyone who has had a child with severe eczema?
I am completely drained and just begging for any help at all.
I have twin boys and ive been to several doctors and even a dermatologist and nothing they have given has helped.
I too have eczema but since I am an adult I have more control on mine compared to my son who has just turned 2, he can not control his scratching and whats worse is he sucks either thumb so the drooling makes moisture on his inner arms which causes more scratching. I havent had success with trying to get him to stop the thumb sucking, he never sucked his thumb till about 5 months ago when he went to daycare then all of a sudden he came home, doing it. His other twin does not have issues with eczema so far.

Ive tried to have a towel around so every time he drools id wipe his arms, but as a single mother i cant be doing it all the time since I have his mischievous brother as well and i have to be back and forth from the kitchen preparing there food, it gets exhausting.

The doctors who have seen him make me feel like there not really trying to help. There pediatrician kept seeing how his eczema was turning to scabs and i begged her to refer us and it wasnt untill another Dr chewed her out that she got off her butt and refereed him to a dermatologist.

I hate that steroids seems to be there only answer to everything with ezcema. Ive been trying everything from room temperature water with oat meal ground to powder and put in the water, since warmer water can cause eczema to flair up. Ive used eucerin aquaphor and the thick eucerin white cream, ive even bought benadryl liquid ointment to try to help with the itch. The dr’s have given me liquid medicine to give him by mouth to help with itch and it doesnt seem to really help. I keep up with him nails and keep them cut so he cant scratch so bad, ive even tried to show him how to rub his arms so he can try not to scratch and he’ll try but then it resorts to him scratching. He wakes up in the middle of the night tearing his arms and legs up, and i dont get much sleep cause i hear him and i get up and try to get him to go back to sleep.
I feel so bad cause i know how it feels cause ive suffered with eczema since my teen years and i know how it feels when the itching just seems like its so internal all the scratching you do does not help and it continues to burn.

My main concern is the fact that I need to help heal the scabbed areas and i kept asking the dr’s wouldn’t we need to clear that first before just throwing on the steroid medication but they dont tell me anything they just prescribe more steroid cream. Im afraid that he could get a skin infection and if it gets real bad it can enter the blood stream and make him really sick or end up fatal. I have resorted to wrapping his arms and applying neosporin but with a child so small and determined he rips the packing off. So im constantly putting new wrapping every hour. So far it is looking better but not completely healed.

I just want any advice anyone has who has dealt with it before with a younger child. Last thing i can think of to try is to buy him several long john pants and shirt for everyday of the week, and giving him oat meal baths every night then to lather him down with the aquaphor ointment, then repeat it when he wakes up in the morning and hope that the long johns sticking to him with the ointment will make it harder for him to try to move the sleeves back and scratch or ive thought of very long gloves/mittens that are breathable but i doubt they make any for children so it may break him off the thumb sucking and cut down on the drooling on his skin.
I just feel so completely lost. Any advice would help.
Found something that worked good for my son cause it seems like the dermatologist just wants to BS me for help.
My mother let me try a cream she was given after a surgery. Its used for minor burns, cuts, rashes, irritated skin, and bites. Its called Calmoseptine Ointment and its a thick pink cream and you can buy it over the counter at the pharmacy.
I soak him in a bath with oatmeal that is ground into powder. Then when i take him out I rub J&Js sleeptime baby oil(its purple container) and it helps hold moisture. Then I lotion him with cocoa butter lotion. Then once it dries I apply the thick pink cream to the irritated areas, then put him in 100% cotton long johns. In two days several areas of his skin were half the size of what they were. He had an area of scabbed up eczema the size of a playing car in two days it was half that size. Then during the day I rub him every 30 minutes of when i see him scratch with aquaphor (Eucerin) ointment all over. Its been clearing up good.

Question by Amy R: need tips for managing eczema flareup?
i have had severe eczema since i was an infant. and for the past 2 months or so it has been the worst it has ever been. my legs, arms, back, stomach, chest, neck, hands, face ALL covered. my hands and arms its more inflammation than redness, little bumps everywhere. I have tried antibiotics, which helped for about a week, cortisone creams, pretty much everything my dermatologist will give me, except for prednisone because i am wary of the side effects. Also doing the short, luke warm showers, pat dry, moisturize, no soap products on areas of breakout, no fragrances. Does anyone have any suggestions!?! Please help me, I am getting desperate!

The main cause of eczema is overreaction of the immune system. Identifying certain foods, chemicals, etc can be very helpful in battling this disease. I try to avoid soy and sea food which trigger my flare-ups.
After using number of prescription drugs I’ve turned to the natural treatments.
Now I use herbal remedies from serenaskin.com, which aim at the root of the disease – the immune system, and are steroid-free.
After about 3 weeks of using ointment and spray my skin has been cleared up and now I just continue with anti-eczema extract, which controls the immune system. My skin has been clear for months now.
It is the only treatment I have found that provides me complete relief when I use it as directed.

Question by Miizz. Core-ten-ayy: I need help! Teenage Eczema!!?
I’m 13 years of age. I have had eczema since I was an infant and as a child. It seemed to have went awy for a little bit but now it came back and it’s bad. When I was two it made all of my hair fall off. Now I have it on my arms and on my neck. It spread from my neck to my scalp and about a little over two inches from the hair line on the back of my neck up has fallen out. I’m really concerned that by the end of 8th grade I’ll be wearing wigs. :( Can someone help? Please no rude comments. (Also I’ve heard of a product called ProEcza. Any comments about that..)

Hey I have eczema as well, but not as severe. My eczema spots are discoloured , and i’ve had it since I was a baby as well. Have you tried oat meal baths? fill up the bath tub, and when your ready put some oatmeal in it, and something in it exfoliates your skin, when your done moisturize immediately. Also if you haven’t already go to your doc, and they can refer you to a ddermatologist tthat’swhat I did.
