Question by SpDee: What over the counter ointment is recommended for hand eczema?
Best answer:
Answer by pathfindercia
I have eczema and I use Hydrocortisone. Hydrocortisone is not specifically for eczema but is an anti-itch cream. The problem with eczema is that it causes very dry, itchy skin. When I use it, it stops the itching and therefore I don’t make the eczema worse by scratching and damaging my skin.

I’m 22 and was prescribed that almost 2 years ago. DON’T USE IT. It now carries a black box warning and is too strong, esp. for a baby. I went back to my doctor after i heard about the warning, and she prescribed Aclovate. I try not to use it and just stick to washing with Dove and moisturizinig with Cetaphil. Taking an antihistamine before i go to bed also helps so that i don’t scratch. That’s when I would do all the damage, in my sleep. I would wake up in the morning with such raw skin. Also, to relieve broken raw skin and also just to relieve and moisturize, make a solution of half cold water and half fat free/skim milk. Use it as a splash or a cold compress. Helps esp after the shower while pores are still open. Follow up with the Cetaphil. Good Luck!

there’s no need to put lotion on top of the eczema ointment, but you can still put the lotion on if you really want to.

She has some eczema spots on her legs and a little on her hand. Also, is it beneficial to put the ointment on the finger with which she sucks? It’s also reddened from her sucking on it. I like the ointment (same one used for breastfeeding) because it is edible and it is natural.
