Question by Nina Lee: Rash (Eczema?) during Pregnancy?
I was doing some research and the only thing I could find was some info on rashes during late pregnancy, nothing for early pregnancy. The inside of my arms and the back of my calves have broken out in an eczema looking rash. I had eczema as a child and had a break out here and there several years ago, but that has been a long time ago. I never had any rashes during my 1st pregancy. It itches like crazy!!!! Anyone ever have a rash during early pregnancy? (I’m 9 weeks.)
(It’s not an allergic reaction.)

I had an eczema flare up after my 1st son was born and it went away. Now I’m pregnant again and it’s baaaaack! All at my hair line though. I had some cream left over from the 1st time around and my OB said it was ok to use during pregnancy. Yours should be able to prescribe something to relieve the itch.
Good Luck!

Question by Jordy[♥]: eczema or dermatitis in pregnancy…?
I had never had any kind of rashs in my whole life until i fell pregnant with my first child 2 years ago.. a small part of my forearm started coming up with an itchy spot like rash but seemed to only come and go and didnt get too bad. Ever since i had my baby it has come and gone in the same spot but cleared up alot. I am now 5 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby and it has come back but heaps worse this time, its spread across my arm and i have another rash type thing on my other shoulder. They are both very itchy and sore. Ive looked at pictures of eczema and dermatitis on the net and it looks pretty much the same. Im going to the doctor this week to see what can be done about it. Has anyone ever had this flare up in pregnancy? if so what did you do and did it cause any other problems.?
(sorry, i know that was a long one) =)

I’ve had little patches of eczema since I was little. I usually get it in the spring, but pregnancy hasn’t seemed to impact it. The best way that I have found to deal with it is to put a little olive oil on the area right after you get out of the shower. You can also put an oatmeal pack on it for 10-20 minutes (just regular oatmeal, prepared the regular way). Also clothing can effect it. Try washing your clothes in fragrance free detergent and then use a little white vinegar in the rinse cycle, no fabric softeners or dryer sheets. Sometimes if it’s really bad otc cortisone cream will take it away, but I don’t know about using that early in pregnancy, luckily the dermatologist will.
Sorry about your itchiness, but congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy.

Best way to find something better is to see a skin specialist or a dermatologist. I use a brand called Elidel for my eczema. It helps relieve the itch and makes the bumps go away. Maybe it’ll work out for you. I hope it does.

Question by Lisa: Eczema on my face during pregnancy. Any suggestions?
I have had eczema on my hands for a couple years, and have learned to keep this under control. But now that I am pregnant the eczema has taken over much of my body. The most bothersome is on my face. It is not bumpy like on the rest of my body; it feels like thick, dry, chapped skin mostly above my lip and around eyebrows. It looks like a bad reaction to facial waxing.
Any suggestions of what I can try on my face, or body, while pregnant? I hate to use too many medications while pregnant.

Question by mahli: What is the best treatment for eczema during pregnancy?
I’m 20 weeks pregnant and have suffered from discoid/nummular eczema for the past few years. Since I have been pregnant it has become progressively worse. I was using a pretty strong corticosteroid cream before pregnancy, but since it is a category C, I am no longer using it. I would also go to the tanning bed regularly, which helped tremendously, but of course I can’t do that anymore either. I’m currently using Aquaphor, which helps a little, but I was wondering if anyone has had luck using other products that are not harmful to the baby. I’ve seen a cream in the drugstore called Baby Eczema cream by Gente Naturals, and I’m wondering if it’s safe to use b/c it’s made for infants. It’s almost unbearable! I’m willing to try anything!! Any help is greatly appreciated!

I’ve been using the really thick heavy Eucerin cream. Seems to help.. but mine has actually eased up during pregnancy.
