Question by Sara G: Baby with Eczema, question for any experts…?
I’m puzzled as to what is going on with my 4 month old daughter so here is a run down:
She started at 2 months old with a small eczema patch near her ear on her cheek and cradle cap. From there she ended up having the patch on her cheek flare up to really red and developed a patch on her neck on that same side of her face right where the lining of her clothes would touch her neck (she leaned her head to that side more than the other.)
Around 3 months, she started getting little dry patches on her stomach and a few on her diaper area. The patch on her cheek got oozy and her neck patch also got really weepy and red. I took her to the doctor. They said it was eczema and wanted me to eliminate Dairy from my diet. She is strictly breastfed. I had already eliminated dairy two weeks before that after a bought of bloody stool and mucous stools after a weekend of many cheesy things.
After the doc visit and immediately starting eliminating nuts, soy, egg, corn, wheat, citrus, etc… it QUICKLY spread and covered her entire torso the worst of all. Her torso was flamming red, she had some patches on her thighs, in the creases of her limbs, etc.
As I said, this seemed to spread almost over night after the doc visit.
I called the doc every day and they kept telling me that it will take time for the offending food to get out of her system and to stick with my diet.
After the 3rd day of phone calls to the doc they called in a .02% steroid cream for her. I had been doing vanicream, baby aveeno, cetaphil, aquafor, etc etc and it just seemed to keep spreading. The cream helped immensley and we are constantly moisturizing her (like 4 times at least a day and baths every other day.)

Basically my question is this, my husband feels that it was more likely something topical that caused her flare because the worst part was all over her torso where she is always covererd (she wears onesies a lot), where the doctors say it was something i was eating.
I was using an all natural detergent but it was scented. I have since switched to “free and clear” detergent and done what I stated above.

Sorry to ramble, bottom line is do you think it is more likely food related or an allergy to something topical?

i think you need to take her to a doctor who specializes in skin care (dermatoligist) .

Question by hayabusa445: Sex Question.. Please help!?
Okay, Me and my girlfriend have had sex about 10 times without a condom, Our first time was without one cause it broke. But, one day I was in the shower and I saw a small red mark on the head of my penis, I didn’t really make much out of it, it just looked like it was a small pinch or something. Well, that was about 4 or 5 days ago maybe longer and it’s gotta bigger, but it’s getting WAY more faint, it’s not red as much it’s more of a very very faint pink but it’s somewhat raised a little. Not even 1mm though. It is painless but it’s also very annoying, I hate looking at it and it’s somewhat making me worried or scared.

I don’t want answers saying “Go see a doctor” cause thats simple dumb stuff. I want to know what it is, I think it’s honestly dermatitis or a rash from having sex or foreplay. It doesn’t hurt, Doesn’t itch, nothing, I don’t even know its there except for when i look at it. My girlfriend has frequent blood tests but they come back normal every time. (They aren’t always for STD’s or anything, they are just for certain things, Gol bladder or anything of sort.)

Im telling myself within the next week if it doesn’t clear up im gonna go to a doctor, but I want opinions before I DO go. I’m also done with sexual activities or contact for a while. I’m sexually active but just with my girlfriend and it’s not often.

I still don’t understand why it’s just shown up now but not last month.

Please Help

A red bump could be the result of multiple things, whether it’s an STD or just irritation. There’s no way for anyone to tell you what it is over the internet. If it is some kind of STD, organisms have different incubation periods, so some show up faster than others. That could be why you’re seeing it now. Unfortunately, I would have to say exactly what you don’t want to hear, only your doctor would be able to tell you.

Question by Nobody Special: Question about applying cream for eczema?
Okay so i asked this on the UK site and haven’t received any answers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My doctor gave me some cream for my eczema and she’s told me to only apply it once a day instead of twice (because hydrocortisone is bad for the face). So what I’m wondering is should i apply it in the morning when i get up or before i go to bed. Which is best or does it not really matter?

Hey ya, yeah im Irish and notice that the UK and Ireland site can be useless.

Right so, i suffer from Eczema all my life and use steroid cream when i get bad flare ups.

To answer your question put it on at night time is what i’d suggest, reasons:

Ive found that your skin can become quite sensitive to the sun (burn easy) when you have applied hydro.

Sometimes when i put on the cream i can get a bit itcy so i wack it on before i sleep as to reduce scratching.

Once you put on the cream your eczema can get a bit redder, so putting it on at night and then getting up in the morning to go to work etc wont make you so self consious.

This is what I ve found anyway. Hope I ve been helpful.

Question by kye n: infant eczema question?
I have a 2 month old and she has eczema. I use gain to wash her clothes and johnson baby bar to bathe her. I have been using them both since she came home from the hospital. The eczema just showed up 2 weeks ago. The dr didnt say what I should or not use what should I do.
Can I use the aveeno oatmeal soap on her.

Best answer:

Answer by cherisebeck
OH YES! I use only aveeno products on my twins because they have eczema as well! I give them the traditional oatmeal bath once a week…but every time i bathe them I use aveeno body wash and use aveeno lotion. My kids doctor told me to STOP using baby products all together and use either dove, cetophil, or aveeno..I chose aveeno. Make sure whatever laundry soap you use is free of dyes and chemicals. I use all free and clear. If they have a particulary bad flare up you can use an over the counter hydracortisone cream on the bad spots….(OH just make sure you use baby shampoo on their heads so if soap gets in the eyes it doesnt hurt!)

*****edit***** they make an aveeno line of baby specific products…I would start there if I were you and when your baby gets a little bit older move up to regular aveeno!
