Question by Misc: As diagnosed by my doctor, I have eczema on my scalp. What can I do to relieve the itching?
I have been given a liquid and a shampoo, but with my incredibly thick hair, it is a challenge to get to the scalp. Even the dermatologist thought this may be an issue. Do any of you have a home remedy or over-the-counter purchase that has provided some relief and can get to the scalp, through thick hair?

Tea tree oil may help. Or get a shampoo with Tea Tree shampoo. I know you mentioned over the counter but Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo is awesome for soothing heads with eczema and other itchy type scalps such as psoriasis.

You can also get tea tree oil at any health store. You can suspend a few drops in some massage oil or other hair oil and massage your scalp for a few minutes, then shampoo and rinse. Make sure the get into all the itchy patches that you may have!! It does cause a tingly sensation on the scalp, and some people do not expect this and it scares them!!

Good luck!!

Question by cheewagacheewaga: Why does hot water relieve itching for eczema sufferers?
I have eczema and have noticed that when my arm or hands itch from eczema, pouring really hot water on it feels really good and stops the itching immediately! The downside is that it dries out your hands and can cause it to crack. Why does hot water stop the itching and make it feel good?

Itching is low grade pain. Sometimes a change of temperature balances the nerve endings just enough to change the natural signal for awhile.

I’ve had eczema for 7 years now. The only thing that really helped me a lot was a special steroid shot. I would have continued using it, but instead of making me extra happy, it made me really depressed. I’m tired of swollen fingers and cracked hands. Any help?

What lotions could I use to relieve the irritation and reduce the occurrence on eczema? I only get it in a few small places a lot during the summer with the heat and just keep scratching. I currently do not have health insurance so I don’t want to go spend a fortune to get a prescribed lotion. Any tips on good lotion from the drug store or what ingredients to look for in lotions that are helpful?

Hi, I’ve had eczema for 17 years and I’m just wondering if there are any foods that I should eat to reduce its outbreak (especially at this time of year)?

I heard that drinking a TON of water also helps. Anyone know if this also is true (and why)?
