My sister’s got some skin problem on her hands.
It’s mainly a rash that covers her fingers – generally around the knuckles – with these sort of water blisters, or something. They apparently get extremely itchy, which she can’t help but scratch – which eventually causes the skin to crack & she bleeds. Sometimes the blistes “weep”.
She works in a diner & finds herself washing her hands a lot, given she’s handling food. She carries out cleaning duties, so I’m guessing she comes into contact with bleach & other things. I’m not sure whether this is relevant, but it’s a chip-shop AND diner, so she’s constantly exposed to acetic acid (vinegar) and steam from the fryer. Her hands have become very dry.
She’s been to the doctor about it, as she finds it quite painful, as the skin can crack even if she hasn’t scratched it. The doctor suggested that she might have worn away the cuticle or something – exposing the more fragile skin to the elements and thus resulting in some form of dermatitis. She was prescribed a sort of emolient, which she’s been using quite religiously before bed every night & wearing gloves as she sleeps.
However, she’s been doing that for a long time now & it doesn’t seem to be clearing up. I think she has “breakouts”, though I’m not sure, as she only tends to complain about it when it’s really bad.
My mother was a nurse, back in her day & she said something like “If it’s wet – dry it out, if it’s dry – moisten it” as she was thinking that maybe the emolient was making things too moist.
Due to exams, she’s only been working one day a week – yet the irritation has stayed, so I’m not sure how strong the link is there.
I just felt like asking this, just out of sheer curiosity. She’s quite happy to go to the doctor about it, if need be, though since the emolient might not be working for her, she doubts there’s anything else they can do for her.
P.S: Pretty sure she’s been using eumovate.

I normally wear contact lenses, have atopic dermatitis, am allergic to smoke, and only wear special mascara for sensitive skin. First time I had this, I was told that my eyes started rejecting contact lenses so I’ve changed the type. A&E gave me erithromicin to treat possible infection, which I developed allergy for and refused to treat me further since the swell was gone. All four lids get swollen like a baloon and I can’t move them and hardly see anything as well. White inner part also gets swollen on both eyes so I can’t really move the eyes either. And it hurts like hell. Before that the puss is coming out in massive amounts both from upper and lower lids. It normally happens after the night out. I thought it was contact lenses; however, last night I was wearing glasses, so now I start thinking that it’s the reaction to smoke. I had this 2 or 3 times with the old lens type and everything was good since I got new ones (about 2 months ago).

My daughter who is 11 month old started with a rash a month ago around her mouth, nose and eyes very red and itchy. We took her to the GP who said it was contact dermatitis caused by saliva and perscribed Clotrimazole Hydrocortisone steriod cream rub on thinly twice a day. Also not to use a soap products on her face so we started using olatium in her bath and just washing her face after meals with warm water. After 2 weeks it had not improved at all and round her eyes looked worse the gp said they could do nothing else and keep applying the cream it will work. Its been a month now and her rash is still no better and the instructions on the steroid cream says only use for a month we have another gp appointment on monday but wondered if anyone else had any suggestions of what we could use on it to get rid of the rash.Because i really dont feel comfortable carrying on using the steriod cream on my daughters skin and i think thats all the gp will say when we visit on monday.

i have just sold by pony, a 14.1 black welsh section D mare, 14 yrs old. she has gone somewhere with cattle, and there are allot of flys, but her owner phoned up the other day to say she was really itchy and that she had rubbed a big patch by where her girth goes, we went to see and it looked like the girth had rubbed to advised she got a girth protector for her, but now she has told us that she has lines on her back, about 1 inch long that stand out along her back and they have turned to blisters, she doesn’t no what it is and neither do we, she is putting a fly sheet on her every day to try and stop her itching, she has always been a itchy horse but never this bad. i was wondering if it was something to do with the cattle, we are going over tonight to look and see if we can see anything in the Field she is in other than the cattle that could be causing her to itch so much, she was itching on a trailer that was in the Field but that has been fenced off now. does anyone have any other ideas what it could be, we are wondering if it is lice, Irritant Contact Dermatitis,Seborrhea or something like that, is there any supplements we could recommend too? as she is really itchy
thanks

back when my son was 8 weeks they put him on soy formula because of his constant lose and runny (water) diapers. when he turned 1 we were given the ok to do whole milk and he was fine for a while but know that he is 18 months he has had lose to a pudding texture bowel movements for a month know . so at a recheck today on his thrush i was told to go back to soy milk and he also has a rash that i was told was contact dermatitis.
is it possible for him to be intolerant to the lactose and then be fine with it and then not be able to digest it again. or could it be a allergy because of the rash and the runny poop and the thrush.
i didn’t seem to think about asking all of this until i got back home.
