Question by VixenMom: My 1 year old has eczema… and it seems to be getting worse!?
I’d like the opinions and experiences of parents who’ve had this problem and what you found to work. I’ve been using hydrocortisone 1%, but it doesn’t do the trick. The doctor said that usually they outgrow this by their 1st B-day (which was a week ago)… but I don’t see it getting better. It doesn’t seem to bother my son… I never see him really scratch at it. It is mostly on his legs and a few spots on his arms. I’ve also tried giving luke warm baths, not bathing as often, lotioning with Aquaphor, Eucerin, baby lotion… and still nothing. Has anyone visited a dermatologist for their infant? What was their recommendation? If your child outgrew it, how old was he/she? If one parent has the condition, is it likely the child will continue with it?

Answer by abearsfan77 My 11 year old daughter has had eczema very badly since birth. I took her to a dermatologist at three years when it got really bad. He said she had extream eczema due to very sensitive skin. You are doing everything I have tried. The aquaphor has worked best for us but nothing has ever made it go away completely. Make sure you apply it right after the bath, that is very important. It helps lock in some moisture. You are very lucky that it dosn’t really bother him much. My daughter can’t sleep at night some times because she itches so bad.

Answer by itsdez Best way to find something better is to see a skin specialist or a dermatologist. I use a brand called Elidel for my eczema. It helps relieve the itch and makes the bumps go away. Maybe it’ll work out for you. I hope it does.

Question by rusty: What is this on my hand? Eczema? Or something worse?
About 3 months ago I got this small red, puffy spot on my skin between my ring and middle fingers on my right hand. It never spread, it never hurt, and it never discharged anything. I thought it might have been a bug bite, poison ivy/oak, athlete’s foot, or something like that. It was on my hand for about a month or so and then it dried up and went away after I started using Anti-Fungal Cream and Cortisone-10 for about 2 weeks. This morning, about a month after it went away, it came back. It’s in the same spot, it hasn’t spread, no pain, no puss, nothing. Just that small red puffy spot. What could this be? Hand Eczema possibly? Thanks

Answer by a l Eczema would itch, but you haven’t mentioned a thing about that, so I might guess that it could be several things: erythrasma, erythroid, herpetic whitlow, or tinea manus. All of these would respond to anti-fungals and cortisone. So I would recommend using them both for a while because erythrasma can take months of constant treatment to fully eradicate it. If you want better advice, either see a doctor or post good pictures of the rash when it comes back.

Question by Poppy I LOVE YOU MJ RIP <3: whats causing my allergic reaction? stress or diet? eczema, spots, itching…its getting worse!?
okay i don’t know what it is but its getting worse. it started about a month or two ago,
it started off with eczema, but now ive got spots on my face and the eczema is getting worse
okay i do realize it COULD be because of my stress – ive been under immense pressure due to exams (gcses) , but ive calmed down as they are over, it was really bad because ive never been under that much pressure in my live. but why am i still getting itching and spots and stuff?
but i was wondering -
could it be my diet? i have kind of started eating new things, but they re all healthy changes.
heres what i have on an average day:
breakfast – bio pot yogurt with chopped banana
lunch – sandwich (Philadelphia and lettuce)
dinner – whatever my mum makes (never been a problem)
i do have about 2 cups of herbal tea.
okay, now i want to know whether its my eating or my stress?
please help me!

Answer by northernMN-15 It is most likely from your stress..
I have eczema too, and I use a cream for it called: triamcinolone 0.1% cream, it’s generic for Kenalog 0.1% cream. Anyway its a prescription from my doctor.. Another thing that helps is benedryl..It makes you drowsy but also helps with the itchyness…
Get some of the cream for it and try to apply it before you scratch it into a sore..
avoid scratching your eczema if you can.
good luck!
